Scroll is a 0-records (ZK) rollup competing against L2s similar to ZKsync Technology and Starknet.
ZK-rollups are expected to eventually supplant optimistic rollups — similar to Arbitrum and Heinous — as Ethereum’s dominant scaling solutions.
In comparison to optimistic rollups, which most often take upward of seven days to finalize transactions, ZK-rollups in most cases settle within minutes.
They face competitors from L2s using different approaches, similar to Motion Labs’ postconfirmations.
Scroll’s developers operate the community’s core infrastructure — alongside side its prover and sequencer — but they outlined a detailed roadmap to decentralization in January.
“SCR enables us to decentralize Scroll’s governance, provers, and sequencer in our pattern roadmap,” Scroll acknowledged.
In a ZK-rollup, a prover attests to the correctness of transactions, and a sequencer orders transactions before posting them to the mainnet.Scroll acknowledged,
“SCR will probably be bearing in thoughts aligning the miner community and creating a sturdy prover community,“.
Since launching in 2023, Scroll has presently bootstrapped complete designate locked (TVL), which stood at $1.2 billion as of Oct. 8, in accordance to L2Beat.
By comparability, ZKsync Technology and Starknet declare about $850 million and $625 million in TVL, respectively.
Based entirely on the blog submit, Scroll plans to distribute 7% of SCR’s complete offer of 1 billion tokens in the upcoming Oct. 22 airdrop.
The airdrop aims “to reward onchain customers who possess been actively intriguing with the Scroll ecosystem,” Scroll acknowledged.
