XRP Slides Below $1.43 as Bearish Funding and Higher Yields Pressure Traders

XRP extends losses as unfavourable funding and rising yields weigh on sentiment

XRP extended its losing streak on Thursday, trading near $1.422 and bringing its weekly decline to more than 6%. Weak derivatives positioning, elevated U.S. yields and renewed geopolitical uncertainty combined to limit demand for the token.

CoinGlass data showed XRP’s long-to-short ratio at 0.88, indicating a modest short bias across the tracked market. Funding also turned negative after moving below zero on Wednesday, reaching -0.0022% on Thursday. Negative funding means short-position holders are paying long-position holders and can signal stronger demand for bearish perpetual futures positions, although neither funding nor positioning data reliably predicts the next price move.

Yields and dollar add pressure to risk assets

Broader market conditions remained challenging for speculative assets. The U.S. Dollar Index was around 102.24 on Thursday after reaching 102.53 earlier in the week, its highest level since early April 2025. The 10-year Treasury yield stayed near 5.30% after touching approximately 5.35%, described in the source material as a new two-decade high.

Higher yields can make interest-bearing investments more attractive relative to assets such as XRP and XLM. Minutes from the September 15–16 Federal Open Market Committee meeting also showed unanimous support for raising the federal funds rate target range, while most officials reportedly expected another increase before the end of the year to address persistent inflation. That outlook added to support for the dollar and Treasury yields.

Potential Iran escalation adds to market uncertainty

Reports that the Pentagon had instructed U.S. Central Command to complete preparations for possible renewed military action against Iran introduced another source of uncertainty. The reports referred to preparations rather than a confirmed attack, but the prospect of escalation can encourage defensive positioning, strengthen demand for the dollar and reduce appetite for cryptocurrencies.

$1.40 support becomes the next test

XRP remained above several key moving averages despite its weekly decline. The 50-day exponential moving average near $1.400 represents the nearest support, followed by the 200-day EMA around $1.389. The 100-day EMA is positioned near $1.336.

Momentum indicators remained weak, with the relative strength index near 45 and the MACD below zero. A sustained break below the moving-average support cluster could bring $1.336 and the $1.300 horizontal support level into focus. The source analysis identifies $1.000 as a more distant downside reference. On the upside, XRP faces significant resistance near $1.671; a sustained move above that level could open a path toward $1.900.
