Securitize Expands Institutional Collateral Use for BlackRock’s BUIDL Fund

Securitize Expands BlackRock BUIDL Collateral Reveal Across High Brokers

Securitize has expanded support for using shares of BlackRock’s BUIDL fund as collateral across participating crypto prime brokerages, giving qualified institutional investors a broader way to deploy tokenized Treasury exposure within trading relationships.

Under the arrangement, eligible institutions can post BUIDL token shares as off-exchange collateral. The structure is designed to support trading and financing activity without requiring large collateral balances to remain directly on trading venues.

Tokenized Treasuries Move Beyond Passive Holdings

BUIDL is among the most closely watched tokenized Treasury products in the market. Its role is to place exposure to a regulated, cash-market-style investment product on blockchain rails, linking traditional asset management with digital settlement.

That model becomes more useful when the tokenized shares can support activities such as margin management, lending and trading. Collateral functionality could therefore make BUIDL more practical for institutions than a product held solely for yield or liquidity management.

Access Remains Limited to Qualified Institutions

The expanded collateral support does not turn BUIDL into a retail-accessible product. Participation remains limited to qualified institutional users, and the shares are used within supported prime brokerage relationships rather than through unrestricted retail or DeFi access.

Off-exchange collateral arrangements have gained importance as institutional firms have become more focused on counterparty and venue risk. Allowing tokenized Treasury shares to remain within a broader collateral framework may give firms more flexibility while they conduct trading activity through prime brokers.

Operational Considerations Remain

The development reflects a wider shift in which tokenized Treasuries are being tested as working financial infrastructure rather than simply as proof-of-concept blockchain products. Their potential use in collateral and financing could affect how crypto firms manage cash, margin and short-term yield.

Adoption will still depend on factors including custody, redemption timing, transfer restrictions, smart-contract design, legal rights and integration with brokerage systems. Even so, the expansion places BUIDL closer to the operational core of institutional crypto markets and reinforces the role of tokenized assets as a link between traditional finance and digital trading infrastructure.
