King Charles III is set to bring together senior figures from leading artificial intelligence companies in Scotland this week for discussions on how to develop advanced AI safely and in the interests of humanity.
The summit will take place at Dumfries House and is being overseen by the Ditchley Foundation, according to The Sunday Times. Executives from Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, IonQ and Google DeepMind have been invited to attend.
The meeting comes as executives in the AI sector call for greater caution around increasingly capable systems. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk of xAI recently urged companies to exercise restraint in frontier AI development.
In an open letter, Amodei said AI systems were advancing “enormously quicker” than they had during the summer, partly because of their ability to assist in improving themselves. He also warned that networks of AI agents could potentially consume or process vast portions of the internet within six to 12 months.
Altman has similarly acknowledged that AI companies need to “slow down the frontier.” Sources close to King Charles told The Sunday Times that the monarch has taken a particular interest in the development of AI and the risks associated with the technology.
