CLARITY Act Could Return During Senate Lame-Duck Session Despite Setback

CLARITY Act may per chance net one other shot at some level of lame-duck session, policy indicate says

The CLARITY Act could receive another opportunity in Congress before the current legislative session ends, despite failing to advance in the Senate this week, according to Adrian Wall of the Digital Sovereignty Alliance.

Speaking on Cointelegraph’s Chain Reaction show on X, Wall said he had spoken directly with senators from both parties who were interested in finding a way to revive the crypto market-structure bill during the post-election lame-duck session.

“There is an appetite to position this forward even during the lame duck period of Congress,” Wall said, while acknowledging that the path would be difficult and that success remained unlikely.

Senate vote leaves bill short of 60 votes

The comments followed Tuesday’s unsuccessful Senate cloture vote. The CLARITY Act did not secure the 60 votes needed to move forward, a result Wall described as a “substantial blow” but not necessarily the end of the legislation.

Wall said senators on both sides of the political divide had indicated they were willing to engage with colleagues across the aisle to assess whether a final effort was possible. If lawmakers cannot advance the bill during the lame-duck period, the next Congress could take over the drafting of crypto market-structure legislation, he said.

The Digital Sovereignty Alliance is a nonprofit advocacy group that works with lawmakers and regulators on digital-asset policy.
