US President Donald Trump says his administration is preparing to establish an “AI Force” and appoint a senior official to oversee artificial intelligence policy.
Trump announced the plans in a Saturday post on Truth Social, comparing the proposed initiative with the US Space Force, which was created during his first term. He said the administration would name an AI “czar” in the near future and indicated that the role would require highly qualified candidates.
Details of the initiative remain unclear
Trump did not explain whether the AI Force would operate as a military formation, a civilian agency or a new government department. He also provided no timetable for its creation. White House officials had not clarified the structure or responsibilities of the proposed body in response to media inquiries.
The announcement comes as technology executives and policymakers debate how quickly artificial intelligence should advance and how much oversight is necessary. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that AI development could eventually outpace society’s ability to understand and regulate advanced systems. His proposal included measures intended to manage the risks while allowing continued progress.
Anthropic said on Sunday that it had selected Accenture as its first embedded evaluator, advancing the first step of Amodei’s plan. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk responded positively to the proposal, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued that additional regulation was not necessary.
